Grace

Image
Grace comes on padded feet calling softly to our hearts to express her. It is our task to know when and where. Grace is needed and expose her loving garment to those who have crossed her path. Yesterday on my way home from a doctor's visit I had one such opportunity. I did not eat before going to the doctor, so I was hungry. I asked the ever-gracious Miss Kat who has taken the task of taking me to my various doctor's visit, if we could stop at one of my favorite fast-food places. Naturally she agreed and we pulled into the drive through ordering point. I dithered a little and changed my choice a few times. I settled on the dish I love with iced tea as my beverage. On the short drive from the ordering and pick up, the lovely Miss Kat suggested not having ice in the tea as there was ice at home and I would have more tea. At the pickup window we told the attendant of the choice not to have ice in the tea. Immediately it became obvious that she did not like all this dithering from...

Personal Healing

Image
AS I've let known I am in the process of healing from a second round with colon cancer.  This portion of the trip is slightly different, combining intense pain with a sense of privation as I surrendered my driving privileges. Those factors led me to the insight that my personal healing is intimately connected to the planetary healing which is well on the way. Let it be known that as each one of us heals, we increase the balance the planet uses to heal herself. Our emotional healing is of grand importance to the endeavor. This day I heal every hurt I recognize as my part in the great healing work goes on.

Today's Adventure'

Image
At about 10:am this morning, I called Uber and left the house for my daily bout of life with th world outside. The morning was cloudy, and the lowering clouds promised some rain. Our house is at the corner of two streets, which leaves the back of the house as an option for contact. The wonderful driver chose to take it. This means I had to traverse the uneven lawn as i peered out the front door for the car and saw him waiting for me at the back of our house. My trusty walking stick was up to the task, so we made it and I climb in the ample back seat of his SUV. Off went to the supermarket a mere few miles away.  Having been home bound for the past few weeks, that in and of itself would be exciting enough, but no. I was a glutton for more. To satisfy my need for a greater dose of adventure, I left the phone in the car and entered the market without it. This necessitated an encounter with busy but caring employees of the establishment. My adventure livened up when Miss Kelly e...

The Loved and Wanted One

Image
Some stories are too universal to remain confined within the memory of a single individual. The following though short is one such story. A few years before my father died in 2000, he told me about the Saturday morning on which I was born. My mother always remembered the time as being 7am, as that was the hour the clarion, known, as "The Kacee" sounded calling the workers to their duties. You see there was no personal clocks to the average Jamaican in 1944 the year in which I was born. Papa's memory was much less precise, but poignant and equally as important to my sense of self. He claimed 'the women' kept him out of the single room he shared with my mother and my older brother. The women included the midwife, Miss Hutchinson and my God mother Aunt Kathleen. This upset him and made him angry, because he wanted to see the baby, me. He said he never wanted so badly to see a baby before, nor since. Never in my life had I felt so loved and wanted.  I just finished ...
