Motivated By Spirit

Yesterday, as I watched the grand Cathedral of Notre Dame burning and the spire crumbling in great smoke, I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me. Why gratitude you ask? How can one be grateful for what appeared to be a tragedy for a country and Catholics everywhere? There was also a fire in another house of worship in Jerusalem, a mosque that also experienced fire at the same time. That story is chronicled here   Fire is the element that purifies. Of the four Elements, it is the most misunderstood. Fire appears to destroy and consume whatever it touches. Ah, fire is more, much more.  It reduces whatever it touches to its basic element; and offers those elements an opportunity to build anew; to fashion a whole new construct from the ashes. What occurred with the fires in these two houses of worship is a grand cleansing of the collective soul that is Humanity.  A great portion of the dross of separation was burnt away. Two years ago I published this blog. In the light of today's headlines and current conversation, I have decided to republish it.  We have to begin to chip away at the veil of fear encircling the globe. What can one human being do? In the oft quoted saying by Gandhi, “ be the change you wish to see,” we have inkling. It sounds wonderful; and we say it to one another in smug knowing. However, it does not seems to be working in diminishing the pervading fear. So, what do we do? A simple paraphrase of that saying gives us a clue. ‘ Do the change you wish to have .’ In other words do something about fear in order to live in a fear free world.  Here’s my plan, a very simple one indeed. Say a cheerful hello to a stranger every day. How this can reduce fear, you ask. It is simple. We are all connected. What affects one affects all. By saying hello to a stranger, you are saying; “I’m human, you are human, and I acknowledge our shared humanity.” That is the secret to remov...

“ When I was a child, I spoke as a child; I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. ” From Saint Paul’s letter to the Corinthians chapter 13 in which he spoke for the first ten verses of the attributes of love. As though beginning a new thought, he wrote the above quote. The quote woke me up in the middle of the night and would not be laid down. So I thought I’d better look into this so that I can get back to sleep. I read the whole chapter again. The first ten verses spoke of childlike attributes that is worth striving to become. Children are trusting and give their love and affection without asking that the recipient of their love be worthy of it. Children are honest and trustworthy themselves. Children are naturally joyous and happy. They may pout for a moment when their wants are unmet; but given a moment, more often than not, they return to their joyful selves. Friday and Saturday I attended a Women's Retreat at Unity North Atlanta. It was one of the most beneficial gathering I had attended in a very long time. Amy Steinberg was magnificent and her voice will shake mountains is its strength. The process she led with women in a circle to claim their past condition was very powerful. The breath work led by Ananda was so very powerful and expansive. I cried may tears this weekend and it has left me cleansed. the next two paragraphs contain the testimonial I wrote for the church's Face Book page.   The Women’s Retreat was a collection of expanding events for me. The camaraderie combined with the elegance of presenters made the whole affair a touch stone of grace. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of being there. There was love everywhere and the conversations in between the sessions proved to be enlightening as well. Last evening, I attended a group meeting where the state of our collective spirituality was the topic of discussion. The subject of guilt came up and many of those present opined on the place and purpose of guilt in our ongoing spiritual quest. I opined also. This morning I awoke with an explanation which would make guilt and acronym.  G          Great U          Unreleased I            Information L           Lacking T           Truth I    will leave it there. It is an acronym I will always use to dispel any guilt I feel about my actions or words; and not assign guilt to any even if they appear to be processing unreleased information.

The souls which occupy bodies are small fragments of the entire soul. A soul is far too powerful to be contained entirely within an earthly body. The entirety of the soul is available to the human with which it is associated. That is to say all the wisdom, the knowledge, the power and the love into which the soul has been expanding over the eons is available to humans. This is considerable. The soul is continuously expanding on multiple planes of existence and is attentive to every fragment it sends out to gain experience. The textures of physical existence are important to the soul, because physicality provides enormous opportunities for rapid expansion. Every experience is used by the soul as a vehicle for expansion and is processed as such. Whether the experience is viewed by our physicality as negative or positive the experience is valued by the soul and added to itself. The earth is a complete soul. The divisions that are so obvious in our earthly life are caused by the forces of the joining upon the entity known as Humanity. On the inner planes of existence, there are more souls with the knowing of our Oneness than are holding on to the illusion of separation. The knowledge, that we are one being, is causing the illusion of separation to fray at the edges. This fraying is triggering the illusion to implode upon itself. What we see as divisions and an intractable stubbornness to stay in our selected corners; is the ripples caused by the implosion of the illusion. Something has to give. As the knowledge of our intrinsic oneness gathers strength; the illusion will continue to fray. It will eventually vanish from the knowing of Humanity. Such are the wonders of our awakening.
